Your top 10 favorite classic rock bands/artists

Post by JakeK »

This will be tough for a lot of us, I know, but they don't have to be in any order.

Here are my top 10 (in no order). They define who I am, I couldn't spend a day without listening to a song from any of them, and I probably wouldn't be the man I am without these bands/artists:

The Rolling Stones
The Who
The Beatles
Tom Petty
The Kinks
The Yardbirds
Bob Dylan
The Byrds
Roy Orbison
Eric Clapton

And here's where the lines start to blur: does classic rock = prog? How does one even define "classic rock"? What's the cutoff? Can a new band be called classic rock? Is Chuck Berry classic rock? Do I ask enoough questions?

No.

To me, all those bands are classic. I think the term "classic rock" has been distorted over the years to mean only a small segment of music, unfortunately. :|

Yeah, the term 'classic rock' is broad and defined differently by everyone. Unfortunately for me, all of my classic rock faves fall under, most members of the band are dead, many of the solo acts are dead and the rest are near death. :(

Mine in no particular order.

Beatles
Stones
Who
N. Young
Dylan
Byrds
Hendrix
Allman's
Love
Moby Grape

You must have gotten really into the Yardbirds quickly for them to "define" who you are as you were just asking about them little more than a week ago... :)

Jake is a quick learner................ Good topic btw Jake. Perhaps you need to provide a broad definition of classic rock for this thread though.

That fave band list reads as if you're a person who grew up in the 60s, died and was reincarnated, Jake; A lot of people your age don't even know who any of those bands are! :D

Then again, a lot of people your age don't know what a Rickenbacker is either!! :D

Yep, definition of "what is classic rock and what isn't" is perhaps needed. Meanwhile.

The Searchers
Elvis Presley

I kinda believe I am a reincarnation of Brian Jones. I'm always willing to experiment with something new, I try to get as many new guitars as I can and I play a damn good rhythm guitar as well as harmonica.

Great topic Jake...

- The Beatles
- The Who
- The Rolling Stones
- The Kinks
- David Bowie (early '70s)
- Jimi
- King Crimson (with John Wetton)
- (The) Cream
- ZZ Top (again, early career)
- Deep Purple

I love Dylan but I'm not sure if he fits the "category".... I'm not really sure if The Beatles do either... :?
