New project acquisition

Post by incubus2432 »

I wasn't really in the market but I put in a low-ish bid and ending up with a decent score.....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0301479300

.....not a bad deal even considering current economic conditions.

I'm not 100% sure what the project will be but I'm leaning towards an 8 string conversion with a reworked headstock. The woodworking required is well within my abilities......the Ci is a bonus since it requires no refinish. Another option may be to rework the headstock but go with a 3+2 layout. My Laredo is currently at Paul's for a full-blown custom 5 string conversion so this option may ultimately be a waste and there's always the issue of my ham-handed playing and close string spacing.

Most of the reason for the purchase is just for the fun of a project and the fact that the Ci I owned previously was a wonderful Ric. This one looks like it needs some tweaking and TLC but nothing that a 1/4" driver and some light body sanding won't cure.

Wow, Brian, you did great - that one was made 21 after mine. I vote 8 string! Actually, I hate to see you get it so cheap, if you know what I mean.

Not that it matters, but I would love to see an 8-stringer as well.

Congrats Brian, great score!
I had my eye on that one also. I was going to bid, but I have a new 4003 on order.

Well, this project has already taken a drastic, interesting turn. A trusted Forumite has offered me a rediculous deal on an already modified Cii for my project. I have no issue with modifying the Ci but, honestly, feel better modiying one that is already non-original. This particular bass also is better suited for another mod a I'd like to try......more on that when all deals are settled.

Anyway, I have contacted the seller of the Ci to see if we can nix the deal but if not I'll offer up the Ci here for a slight loss (I'd still be okay factoring in the Cii transaction). Let me know if there's any interest.

I suppose things would be boring without constant shenanigans!
