The Last Time

Post by lyle_from_minneapolis »

Couldn't resist another cover. This one's by an obscure little band that I'm just sure will take the world by storm. :D

That cover is hilarious

Good job, as always, your interpretation is wonderful. You are indeed prolific, Mark, I can't manage to cover so much ground so quickly. :P

You make this old song sound clean and shiny all over again. :D

BTW I played this one about a million times with Mike Wilhelm and Loose Gravel in the early seventies. Always a crowd pleaser. Give me a minute and I'll hit you up with a link ...

Wow, can't wait to listen after work!

Kira, I'm not so much prolific as just impatient. I had the morning to myself and wanted to record something, and got the jones for some Jones. (Wish I had his Vox Teardrop.) But this went very quickly...all told, this took about three and a half hours. Now watch me spend another 10-20 hours blundering about with the mix. :?

Thanks Kira!

Hey Mark,

Another great rendition that whilst it is obviously your version you gave it an authentic 60's sound, right down to the cheesy sounding lead parts...............I loved every second of it. :D

Thanks Brian and Stan! Much appreciated.

Okay I fixed a few things, added some tambourine and re-sang the works. New mix is posted.

Nice job once again on capturing the sound of the era! I take it you used the reverb of the amp for the main guitar hook? (One of the best riffs in rock history, by the way.) I've had the displeasure of working with studio engineers that insist upon recording everything dry and adding reverb later in the mix. It just doesn't sound the same, or do justice to the band's sound.

Thanks Mark and William!

Yeah I used the reverb from my Vox amp but also added Voxengo's OldSkoolVerb with a variation of the Vintage Guitar setting. I had to fake the tambourine...I don't have one...so I played my plastic "Gold 'n' Plump" shaker egg, then ran it through the Camel Crusher plug-in set to "Annihilate". Seemed to work, but I'll be planting strong hints about a tambourine for Christmas, and then I'll re-do that bit.

Whatever you did, it sounds a lot better since I heard it the last time :P . Vocals, overall mix much improved. I see you are #9 in your sub-genre chart listing. Congrats. :D
