Kevin Kuney made my Christmas the best!

Post by JakeK »

It’s been over a year since it started, and I’ve been wanted a reissue of a Rose Morris Rickenbacker, preferably a 6-string. I’ve been “No-dough Jake-o” or even “Some dough Jake-o” but never had enough money for one. Ever since the economy started sucking, and since the rarity of two pickup 1997 FG models have made prices increase to $3k or more, I never thought I would get one.

Kevin Kuney offered me back in May a ’98 1997 FG complete with vintage case. I did what I could to get it, but I couldn’t sell my Fender Stratocaster to get a little saving money started.

Around August/September, my dad made a deal with me: if I could make a semester report card with no “C”s, he would help me buy a new guitar. My grandma (his mom) said she would help, too, and anything else my mom said she would help with.

And when I found out that I was exempt from all my exams and I had no “C”s on my semester report card, I went up to my parents and grandma, told them, and they said they would help.

Today, thanks to Kevin and my family, I now have the guitar I’ve been longing after for well over a year!

The 1997 arrived safely today. I opened the case for a few minutes to get it in tune, and to see if everything was okay with it. I nearly passed out when I saw it. With trembling hands, I picked it up. It looked brand new! Then I wanted to see if it sounded as good as it looked. I played a little of "Can't Explain" by The Who, and was stunned!!! It's the best guitar I've ever owned, and I'm gonna be happy with it for a long, long time. But I had to put it back in the case so the finish does not weather-check.

So, I haven't played my first full tune on it yet, I know exactly what the first thing I'm gonna play on it will be! I'll try to have some pics next week.

Kevin, thank you so much for making me "Happy Jack" today, and I know that should I have money in future, I'll be doing business with you again.

Sounds like Kevin is kinda like Scrooge...in reverse.
Very cool gesture, Kevin. Kudos to you.

Congratulations, Jake! Have a Merry Christmas and enjoy your new...err..."used" guitar. (Told ya you wanted a "used" one).

So, I take it ramming it into a Marshall/Hiwatt 4X12 at the end of "My Generation" is the wrong thing to do? :P

Thanks, guys. It feels great, it truly does. Showed some pics I took on my phone to both of my parents, and they were both impressed. My dad said, "Did you find the Holy Grail, son?"

Believe me, Rich. I'll probably be just as happy as you are with your 1997. It's a great guitar, truly is. Like I said, I didn't want to put it back in the case, but if I had left it out any longer, it would be checking like no tomorrow!
