Need help: new pickups for Ibanex AF75. JAZZ?

Post by brammy »

Gee... there are so many out there.... what's an ignoramus to do?

I was at my local music store the other day looking for a new spring for by Bigsby B5 which is mounted on my Ibanez AF75:

While there the local guru (whose opinion I trust) said "that guitar would sound great with Seymour Duncan 58's" (SH-1). After extensive surfing (please keep in mind that I'm not an expert) I'm of the mind that (a) this guitar could definitely be improved by new PUPs, and (b) since I have 4 Ricks, a Fender Tele, an Ibanez solidbody, a Gretsch solidbody an Epiphone Shereton II, and a few other goodies. I figure I have the rock'n'roll stuff covered ........ maybe it's time to make this guitar into something 'different'.

So..... does anyone have opinions on what might be good JAZZ pickups for this guitar?

IMO the Duncan 59 is a good choice. It's my all around favorite. SD also has a Jazz model that might work well. I would think any lower output humbucker should serve you well. From what I've read, the Ibanez guitars get good reviews in stock form but I would think upgrading to any better quality pickups would be an improvement. For good jazz tone it would depend more on the amplification.
