A couple of original songs on my Comstock....
Here's a video of a couple of my songs that I played at a local musician's showcase over the weekend. What a fun and eclectic venue it was! I think every genre of music was covered, from woodsy folk to country to classical, to rap, to classic rock covers.... I was glad to have the opportunity to add my own brand of acoustic pop to the mix.

Aw c'mon, they weren't that bad, were they?

Re: A couple of original songs on my Comstock....
Naw....they were fine. I had a bit of difficulty catching all the lyrics. But that was probably due to the recording set up.

Re: A couple of original songs on my Comstock....
Ah, sorry about that....the sound quality of the digital camera isn't the greatest, although the sound guy at the venue did a fantastic job of balancing the mix.
Here are the lyrics.... Both of these songs are among the first I ever wrote, and are still a couple of my personal favorites.
Dreamer’s Eyes
By Melissa Breitsprecher
I am a part of someone’s dream
Swimming in circles, hazy shades of green
Drifting, drifting the green depths so deep
Close your eyes, dreamer’s eyes
In shadow dream sleep
In deep silent pools green gaze hold fast
Diving into emerald seas
I wonder could it last
Drifting, drifting in emerald shadow deep
Close your eyes, dreamer’s eyes
You’ll see me in your sleep
(Interlude)
Through veils clouded green,
Beyond hazy shadows too
Where dreams are real
There I’ll wait for you
Drifting, drifting, the green depths so deep
Close your eyes, dreamer’s eyes in shadow dream sleep
Drifting, drifting in emerald shadow deep
Close your eyes, dreamer’s eyes
You’ll see me in your sleep
Drifting, drifting in your dream so deep
Close your wondrous dreamer’s eyes….
I’ll be there in your sleep.
Drifting, drifting…… I’ve fallen in too deep.

Underneath and Overall
By Melissa Breitsprecher
Oh the pain to be in sight,
You try to hide with all your might
The fact you’re sinking, sinking fast
In silence wonder, will it last?
Underneath and overall,
Feel the fire, feel the fall
Up above I see it rise,
Disappointment in your eyes
While down below, please help me stop,
There’s not much further I can drop.
Underneath and overall,
Feel the fire, feel the fall.
Underneath and overall,
I’m falling, falling, hear me call.
Bridge: I need to know when I’m up against the wall
You’re there to catch me every time I fall
When my foolish heart has taken me from you,
Take me back, restore me, find a heart that’s true.
Underneath and overall,
Feel the fire, feel the fall.
Underneath and overall,
I’m falling, falling, hear me call.
Underneath and overall,
I’ll fall into your arms now…..
Hear me call,
Hear me call (whoa-oh)…. Hear me call.

Nice work, Melibee! I agree with Jim.... the songs are fine but the recording is somewhat 'muddy'.
However, glad you got a gig a the musician's showcase and enjoyed it. Were the artists all doing originals or were some doing covers?

Hey, sorry, Mel. I heard you days ago but I forgot to get back to you
I'll agree with the consensus. Good stuff, good execution; the songs, your voice are strong but your production could be improved to get even better sounds from the parts.
Keep up the good work.

Re: A couple of original songs on my Comstock....
Thanks for the comments....
Aitch, the venue was very interesting, and as I said before, eclectic. The first act was a group that did some folksy bluegrass and gospel type tunes, the second group was an instrumental group that did Appalachian and Irish-style folk music. I was third in the lineup, with my own originals.... After me there was a trio of a father and two teenage kids who did a cover of "Werewolves in London," a folk song with accordion, and a rap song that got a few laughs from the audience..... Following intermission there was a singer/songwriter guy with an acoustic guitar who, like me, performed his own songs as a solo act, but his style was totally different than mine, with elegant fingerpicking and unique ballads about life in the northwoods. After that was a very talented jazz trio, who were joined by a couple of female singers for two of their songs, and that act was followed by a classical quintet who did a piece in three movements by Mozart. The final act was a local band that did classic rock covers, and they wanted to keep playing until the stage lights finally went down on them, LOL! It was a fun evening, with a wide variety of music--I'm sure there was something there to suit everyone's taste.
The sound was all mixed by a guy hired for the event, and he was very, very good.... All instruments and vocalists could be heard perfectly at the venue, so any muddiness in the sound on the videos is most likely due to the microphone on my digital camera, and not anything to do with the actual quality of production.
Here are a couple more of my videos from the event (The lyrics for You Alone are cross-posted here: http://www.rickresource.com/phpBB3/view ... 9&start=15 )

Re: A couple of original songs on my Comstock....
Hey Mel - It's been awhile since I've checked in to the thread that I'm apparently the host of. (Red face emoticon thingy) Sorry for the late comment.
Nice job! 'Dreamer's Eyes' is one of my faves from the Melibee hit factory, and this is a great version. Your vocals are strong and delivered with great emotion and conviction, I'd dare say even better than the "studio" version. That Comstock sounds great, too, even given the ****** video audio. When you sound great live with one little mic placed across the room, you know you're doing something right. I had to check out 'You Alone' too. Great version of this as well!
The event sounds like fun - all the musical styles brought together like that. I definitely need to get out of the house and play more often.

Har!
Actually, JDog, it pretty much is.... Although I had a Baggs I-Mix pickup installed a couple of years ago--that's the same pickup that Paul W. puts in the Ric acoustics he builds, so even with that modification I still consider it "stock."
