Throwaway
Throwaway
This is a remix of my song that I submitted to myself for the 2nd RRF album. Those of you familiar with the disc have already heard this song at least once, so nothing too ground breaking is really in store for you guys. I only post this alternate version because the one that ended up on the CD was a rushed mix that upon retrospect I'm greatly dissatisfied with. All the instrumentation is exactly the same, I just feel that the separation and balance is way better on this mix.

Hi Mark,
This is the first time I have heard this song. I loved every second of it. Your bass sounds fantastic. It's well placed in the mix too. The vocals are haunting and dramatic just as they ought to be IMO. All in all a great production. Kudos to you.
Where can I hear more of your music?

Re: Throwaway
A man after my own heart! As much as I love the 4001 sound, it's only natural for me to want to hear it prominent (if not DOMinant sometimes) in the mix.winston wrote:Your bass sounds fantastic. It's well placed in the mix too.
Your Kudos are much appreciated. It means a lot coming from you, sir. For more of my music, just click on my 'Myspace' link at the bottom of this and every posting I leave. There are more links on the Myspace page as well.
This song also appears on RRF CD2. If you haven't heard the whole CD, you're definitely missing out on a lot of great music. Buy one at your local RRF site today!

Re: Throwaway
I really enjoyed that Mark! Great bass playing and tone. I have to get one of those cd's.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS!
Re: Throwaway
Thanks for the props, Joey! Yeah, you should definitely get one of the CDs. All the cool kids have one! If we do another CD in the future, I hope you submit a track or two.
Re: Throwaway
I like this one Mark - it's up to your usual great standards. Not that the first was any slouch version this is just a little better (a.k.a. friendlier to my ears).
Wow so I'm a cool kid - who'd a thunk...
Joey - agreed - a tune or two would be great!
Winston - agreed - the bass is up front where it should be. That is one thing I have always liked about bass live at just about any venue - it seems to come from everywhere. Is that great or what?!!?!?

Re: Throwaway
Thanks, Tom. Yes - "ear-friendly" is always a good thing. The first mix just didn't have that. It was more like "ear-challenging."
Re: Throwaway
Hi Mark. I must admit to not being a huge fan of the genre but when listening to your track I found myself 'listening ahead' for the bass. It sounds great and like Brian, I reckon it's suitably prominent in the mix.
Excellent!!

"Suitably Prominent." Yes! I like how that sounds! Thanks for the input, Howard. It's always interesting to get the perspective of someone whose usual tastes lie outside of the genre in question. Just out of curiosity - what is the genre that you think this song fits into?
Re: Throwaway
Perhaps 'genre' is not the correct word, Mark. I hear 'Yes' influences in the song, so that's probably where I'm coming from. I'd be interested to know what genre you think is appropriate for the song. I'm not a student of the game as such.... my appreciation of of music tends to run along 'I know what I like' lines.

Re: Throwaway
Hey... I only wrote the thing. I don't know what genre it fits! But I take your Yes reference as a big fat compliment. As I just stated earlier this evening on a different thread, Chris Squire is the reason I love and play Rickenbacker basses. Not all the music I write is bass driven, but this song in particular offers a nod to Mr. Squire.
A guess on genre - Rock?

Mark,
I found labelling music and tying it for ever to a particular genre to be so.............lets just say......... inaccurate. Some work absolutely defies being labelled. Is your song rock?..........not exactly but it's not Prog either. It is what it is. Just very very good and memorable.

Exactly, Brian!! Again, 'genre' wasn't the right word to use. Perhaps 'in the style of Mark Walker' might be the best category? It is what it is. Just very very good and memorable.

Re: Throwaway
Sorry to be late, I could have sworn I already returned. Heard the latest mix and, yeah, wot they said. But it's a great song because of what happened in front of the mike, not behind it. Any improvements in the mix would be your call at this point, as I was already sold from the first hearing. I've ceased to be critical and I'm now just enjoying the heck out of it.
Please do continue in this Walker-esque vein of endeavor.
Gawd, you sound just like him
Wow, you kinda look like him too
Tell ya what, go on youTube and maybe they'll hire you to replace him on his next tour. Could be the opportunity of a lifetime.
Luv ya, Mark
If you can keep doing things your way this well, you won't be comparing yourself to anyone for very long.
Please do continue in this Walker-esque vein of endeavor.
Luv ya, Mark
All I wanna do is rock!
