How do i get my 4001cs valued?

Post by yesmrsquire »

Hi everyone.
My girlfriend just recently changed our house insurance policy. For my Rickenbacker 4001CS to be insured they need an updated value for it. Who is it best to take it to? I have no idea. The guitar is in good condition, got all the original parts on it. There is a few scratches and hardly noticeable chip marks but nothing major. I have had it for over 12yrs now and bought it new for £1165 for which i still have a receipt for. I bought it from a music shop in the UK and i estimate maybe now it could be valued at £2000 but the insurance would not accept that until they get an official value of proof.
Could anyone help please?

Jake's idea is a good one, also, several forum members have saved ebay auctions as documented proof of what the instrument sells for on the open market. Perhaps one of them will contact you and share the auction files, or just research ebay yourself and see what you can find. For some, there is a big difference in value between the early and later models - early models with the square bridge p/u surround and thinner necks are generally considered more collectable than later models. The link to the appraisal section will be a great start.
