My guess is, some wood, some metal, maybe with some paint or varnish...

Man, I feel bad for all of you guys. That is harsh.

Being in SoCal, I've never had to wait to open a guitar box- ever. They're usually acclimated from being in the UPS truck etc, and it's not freezing outside.

It lives! '99 Martin SPD12-16R. Pretty nice. It has a slightly thinner neck than my old D12-28 had, or the Takamine that I've been playing lately, and nice tonal balance across the strings. Should do the trick.

Ooohhh, that's a beauty, Todd! Love the inlays around the soundhole and the gold tuners. If it sounds as good as it looks, you've got a keeper! :D

Yep, I think it will be a good one and it sounds great. It's also at that stage where it's still really nice, but not perfect, so I don't have to get too nervous every time I pick it up. This will be the tenth 12-string I've owned (1-Framus, 1-Guild, 2-Takamine, 2-Martin and 4-Rickenbackers). Not bad for a bass player. I just tell people I plan to keep buying them until I learn how to play one.

It seems kind of funny to be so careful about letting them warm gradually. Back when we were on the road, our van full of equipment, most of it Martins, would sit out all night in the cold and then we would walk into the gig or the studio the next day, pop the cases open and start playing. We're probably lucky that they didn't explode from the shock.
