I like the way the MOP inlay is reproduced on the back of the headstock.

That kind of money for a new guitar makes my eyes water....

Agreed. It'd be hard to justify spending that amount on one guitar.

I could get a nice 2nd hand 5 series BMW for that! Mmnnn but that guitar wouldn`t need road tax would it! Id need to polish it every sunday tho!
It would certainly be on my lottery list.

Gibson has done that in the past, IIRC, in the late '50s or early '60s.

I have always liked the look of that tailpiece.

I find myself wondering what the price would be if they didn't call it a "LeGrand"...ah, marketing...

The instrument is beautiful, don't get me wrong, now.

But whenever I see silly "classi-fiers" appended to the name of a product that needs none, I'm reminded of a press package that crossed my desk way back in '76...

Image

It was for the "Mohs Ostentatienne Opera Coupé", built by a Wisconsin restaurateur. Totally wacko, nutzo, ridiculous price (more than a Rolls-Royce), ugly, but it had that "Ostentatienne" (sic) tossed in there, so you could tell everybody that ostentatiousness was your goal, and you had arrived, too!

Image

Bruce Baldwin "Wacky" Mohs supposedly built seaplanes and motor scooters, too...

Yeah paul, I see the point you're making.

It's a similar ploy to how some manufacturers use the word 'Vintage' and 're-issue' to add hundreds of pounds to otherwise fairly standard products give or take one or two probably not very costly alterations.

But as they say, business is business, and there's obviously a market for it out there.

This is the Mohs Ostentatienne Opera Coupé S, since it has no doors. You need to buy the Mohs Ostentatienne Opera Coupé Deluxe if you actually want to be able to get into the car (and then you get dual exhaust pipes too).

The rear of the roof and body open up, gullwing-style, on huge gas struts, to let you in. No word about how he solved the weatherstripping problem, or how nice it was to enter/exit in pouring rain...

The Gibson is beautiful. The car however, is not.

Yeah Rob, I've got 2 of those Gibbys, and had one painted hot pink to match a pair of Docs I got at the mall

Seriously though, very sweet guitar, but should be for that kind of dough.
