Just how bad is the allparts bridge?

Post by Mr.Mow »

Seeing Ric won't allow US dealers to send parts to Australia and we don't have an importer meaning dealing with Ric Asia who have nothing in stock and hellishly high prices....

Local dealers have the allparts bridge or I can get hold of a Hipshot (twice the price though.. no big drama though)..

Just curious I guess..

I had one on my 4001 for a few months, but only because my 4001 had a Badass bridge on it when I bought it and all I could find to replace that was an Allparts bridge.

I can't say that it was a horrible bridge but I can say that it was not as well built and it had slightly less mass than a Rickenbacker bridge. This is subjective of course but after replacing the Allparts bridge with a real one I think my bass has slightly more sustain with the Rickenbacker bridge on it.

It's really up to you but I ended up putting a Rickenbacker bridge on mine. I do not have any opinion on the quality of a Hipshot bridge. However, I would not put one on either of my basses simply because I only want to have OEM parts on my basses. I suppose that makes me a Rickenbacker purist........

They work well actually. They are slightly different in appearance - round holes versus oval ones and the bridge saddles are plated. In a pinch it should do the trick.

After I get my stock bridge from my 4003 working (wobbly saddle-ism going on, it's from 2007) I will have a Hipshot free up and I won't gouge you on it if you want to buy it from me.

Russell,

I've got an Allparts/Greco tailpiece sitting in a box somewhere if you need one.

The Hipshot works well (I have one on my 4000), and if you eye off ebay, you can find a bargain every now and then...

I have one on my 4001, I don't care, but the Parts company I work for looked at it and laughed. They said something in Korean that equals "cheap". But I was in a pinch, and there ya go.

Ok, another question.. is the Allparts bridge made by Gotoh? If so.. why is it not listed in the Gotoh catalogues?

I only ask as there is a seller on ebay selling a 'gotoh' ric bridge, I have no problems with Gotoh stuff (hell most of my Gibsons have had the tails replaced with Gotoh, better than the chinese stuff they use now).

Ta!

(I know I should get a hipshot.. but I'm not sure I dig the looks... any one show me a pic of the hipshot installed thats NOT the Hipshot promo shot?)

I'm considering putting the Hipshot bridge/tailpiece on my C64.

the Allparts bridge is most defiantly Chinese, However, Gibson uses Korean, not Chinese parts. Gotoh is Japan and is nicer.

Is 'Ping Works' Korean? (I have to say I was a little shocked to take the bridge off my nice, new EXPENSIVE Gibson to find 'PW' stamped on the bridge..

So, if this guy is selling 'Gotoh' Ric bridges.. Are they really Gotoh then, he tells me they have no packaging as he buys them in bulk.. Gotoh don't list it in their catalogues..
