Probable neck joint colapse due to nasty routing! :?

I don't think so, as the bridge is quite high in the tailpiece. The seller probably just likes high action, not all that unusual, especially if he was formerly an upright bassist.

A shame the pickups were replaced.

Those are early EMG's. I'm not sure about the market, but would those things be worth anything?

Yeah, the strings are very high through the mute area - but there's quite a lot of thread left on the height adjustment screws, which is probably the reason Eden saw this as a neck issue. Maybe the height adjustment screws have been replaced with something a little longer?

I also looked at the slight dip in the neck/body joint near where the scratchplate goes over it (note the gap) and the angle of the neck heel (a bit more chamfer than normal) Yes the bridge is high, but not so much to cause that action!
I'm just looking at the subtle little clues.....

Oh, Early EMGs have a cult following too. Some folks really like them. I dunno why!

I have some mid-80s EMGs on my P-bass. Theye are actually way better than the original '71s. I just think that these kind of pups are dime-a-dozen.

You have a great I for that subtle neck-joint problem Eden. It really only takes a couple of degrees of movement to ruin a good neck, and that's so hard to see from pics....

As long as I'm "jusssst a bit high", I couldn't care less about the action...

Hmmm...that's the only way some folk can get any action....

Hmmm...I suppose that's true...and more power to them if that's the case, I guess.

"I merely meant, your majesty"...that I've had some really great experiences playing cheezy basses with bad action, provided other pertinent factors were in effect...

Fair enough! I've had the HBs that came with Steinbergers and the J pickups on my 8 string bass and they sound ....well like EMGs
I find that EMGs usually work well on stage but suffer in the studio, and difficult to strike a ballance between "In yer face" and "lost in the mix"
They usually have good string to string volume though....

Long live the Toaster!
