Lennon Caption on Sullivan?
In the Wikipedia article on the film “That Thing You Do” it mentions that the on-screen caption warning female watchers that one of the characters was engaged is based on a similar action taken during the Beatles appearance on Ed Sullivan.
Does anyone have any proof that an on-screen caption said John was married? Which song did it occur in? I have not seen it on any of the YouTube clips I’ve seen.
Thanks.

Mark, they were singing Til There Was You. They CG'd each band members name (if you call it that back in '64). When they got to John it included the caption, 'Sorry girls. He's married'. I have it on the DVD, the Beatles, the First U.S. Visit

Evidently, they didb't realize that Ringo was also married.

Re: Lennon Caption on Sullivan?
Cynthia and John were married on August 23, 1962 at the Mount Pleasant Registry Office in Liverpool, and Julian was born on April 8, 1963..... so at the time of the first Sullivan show, John was VERY married indeed.
Yes, Ringo married Maureen Cox on 11 February 1965Re: Lennon Caption on Sullivan?
Apologies in advance for the off-route vector, but what guitar is "John" playing in that Rutles clip? Is that an LP Double Cut?

Thanks guys!
I don't know how I missed that on YouTube.
No, there definitely was no Computer Graphics then.
I don’t even know if there were character generators yet. There might have been, I just don’t know. (Those did appear by the late 60s/early 70s.)
If not, then they used a device that looked sort of like a small semi-enclosed Ferris wheel drum. The drum was about two feet in diameter and could hold about eight or more “cards” with a TV camera lens point at one held spot. A combination of the scene on stage and with the drum holding a “Paul” in white characters would show up together on the screen. Sort of like a double-exposure in still photography.

Thanks guys...I thought the body looked a little wide for an SG, but I couldn't really tell.
