Ultimate Vintage Amp

Post by kenposurf »

So, what would your holy grail be hmmm? After a number of years playing only vintage amps I've gone over and am endorsing amps built in this decade (save for another topic) That said I love vintage amplifiers..hard to pick one...maybe Leo's very first Champ or ????

I'm pretty happy with the amps I have, but if I had the space and money were no object:

A 60s era Vox AC30 Super Twin Reverb with built in vibrato and reverb, either a piggyback or combo setup. If I could get a piggyback style amp with the ultra rare trapezoidal head later found on the Thomas built Vox amps that would be even better: http://www.voxshowroom.com/uk/amp/ac30str.html :D

A Blackface Showman with Blonde Tolex and JBL speakers

An original black face Fender Twin with JBL speakers

Not very imaginative, I know.

...Come to think of it, a Transonic in new condition with covers and a stand would be cool. :D

A JMI Vox AC30 top boost c/w chrome stand would be my first choice (used to own one). My second choice would be an original Blackface Fender Twin Reverb (I own a Blackfaced Twin :D ). My third choice is a Sunn Model T with a 610 bottom. Surprise surprise I still have one of those too..............

Oh and a special mention for vintage Selmer WEM and Bird amps.

Not sure how "vintage" it would be, but my Holy Grail amp is a mid-80's Dumble ODS or Dumble Reverb with the Skyliner EQ stack and a Dumbleator effects loop. A Steel String Singer would definitely be up there too. Bit pricey though, but that just enhances the Holy Grail category description.
