Rickenbacker through a CARR amp???

Post by ric330 »

Specifically the Mercury ...
Class A Single-ended fixed bias EL-34 output stage Single channel: bass, treble, reverb 3-position boost switch Treble cut switch Built in 4 position attenuator (8, 2, 1/2, 1/10 watt) Mercury 1x12 combo, or New! Mini-Merc 1x10 combo
This seems like a cool idea of an amp for home or sudio but I haven't heard one or seen one up close.
...went in to buy a 52' Tele and walked out with a 360 Jetglo...

I use a Carr Mercury as my primary home amplifier. I play my 360/12 and 36012/CW through it almost all of the time. You need to leave it on gain setting #1 - the "Clean" setting. I use the 2 watt setting for the attenuator. Actually, I like the sound of the clean setting best, and you can still tweak the treble and bass. If I want to overdrive a Les Paul or Strat, I use a pedal. I've put a JAN 5751 in P1 for a little less pre-amp gain and have a JJ KT77 for the power stage. You can get a pretty nice clean sound as well as a smooth overdrive. It's a nicely made amplifier...
