....compared to the out put of most of my other guitars i.e. PRS Hollowbody II, Gibson Les Paul PRS 12. Is this common for most Ric pickups? Are there any higher output pickups that maintain the Ric sound? I'm relatively new here so if this has been discussed before please point me in the right direction. Thank you.

Tom

Rickenbackers have single coil pickups. Most Gibsons and PRS guitars are equiped with humbuckers, which tend to be hotter, therefore louder, pickups.
I don't think you need higher output pickups, just turn up your amp.

How does a HiGain compare to a P90 in terms of output?Clint wrote:Rickenbackers have single coil pickups. Most Gibsons and PRS guitars are equiped with humbuckers, which tend to be hotter, therefore louder, pickups.

Great Ramp In My Opinion.

I have had limited experience with P90s. I think they sound great, especially in a mahogany bodied guitar. Overall I find them to be hotter than the Hi Gains with more of a midrange bark. Even better than the P90s are Gibson's mini humbuckers that were on the Les Paul Deluxe. For my money, those were the best pick ups Gibson has ever made.

Thanks. That's what I do, but the output is so significantly different that it takes a big volume increase.Clint wrote:

Re: My '98 330 pickups seem a liitle weak...
I may have misunderstood your original question, I thought the 330's pickups just seemed "a little weak". How does it compare with your other Rickenbackers? How does the 330's volume compare to your Strat or Tele? A Rickenbacker with Hi Gains should be fairly close, in volume, to a Fender. If not there may be some problem.Dr.Tom wrote:...the output is so significantly different that it takes a big volume increase.
