ID help here...?

Post by collin »

I'm a total guitar player, admittingly knowing very little about Ric (or any other) Bass....but I'm digging on this project body:

Without the hardware etc on, I can't tell for sure if it's a faker (I have a hunch....just not sure). What say ye, bassists?

Looks like a faker. Stripe to wide, fretboard doesn't look correct, terrible FG...Could it be bad lighting? Bad photos?

Usually there's writing in the control cavity..none here...Truss rod tops don't look correct either

Between the truss rod nuts, the string nut and the too dark fingerboard (although not wholly undesireable), it looks like a fake to me. Do what you will, but to work with a fake just sits wrong with me.
Can we have everything louder than everything else?

Ah, right. Thanks guys.

I actually dug the fireglo....but putting time/money/effort/thought into a fake ain't worth it...

If you hit "View my other auctions", you can clearly make out the copy parts he is selling as well.

That is one of the better fakes but fake nonetheless. The dual truss rods are particularly noteworthy.

Definitely a copy - for the pedants & anoraks it's a Matsumoku, which would have been originally badged Aria Pro, Univox, Greco etc. These were as close as the 70s Jap copies got - and they fool a lot of people.

Those wavy Grover copies are getting serious bids!

Jon.
