Getting psyched for Phish

My son and I have third row tix for Phish on Tues...just sitting here watching them on DVD. Evan is practicing their songs, just in case they call him up...

Marc, how was the show? I have great seats for the Mansfield show this Saturday. I went to alot of Dead shows as a kid ('81-'85 or so). I lost interest in them but love Phish & MIke Gordon. I have only seen Phish once though...New Year's Eve '93 in Worcester.

I am taking my 15-year old nephew who's a big fan...it will be his first concert of any type.

I downloaded the Fenway show the other day and it was great! Much tighter than the Hampton shows IMHO, so I think they've been practicing alot.

Can't wait!!

Just saw the set list for last night's show. Mike's Song -> Simple is one of my favorite song pairings of theirs. Great way to open the 2nd set! I may have to download this show as well.

I wish I could get my kid to write a review of the show. He was mezmorized. I wasn't really impressed. The fans bothered me most of all. Like the band, imo very self indulgent. Everyone seemed in their own world. They even dance with themselves, I didn't see any couples dancing together.

A poor man's Grateful Dead if you ask me.

I saw the Mansfield show last Saturday night. I am a big fan of the music more than the scene and just love watching Mike Gordon play. Had great seats and great binoculars . Enjoyed dancing a bit and just focusing in on their playing. My nephew loved it too.

I get what you mean about the fans though. I became so disillusioned with the Dead after awhile, and see all of the same traits in many Phish fans. But I have seen the same thing in just about every tight community I've been around in my life, at so many levels on the social ladder. There are those that realize it's a part of a bigger sea and just go with the flow and let everybody enjoy it in whatever way they see fit, and those who want theirs to be the ultimate community above all others, and judge everybody who doesn't work as hard as they do to be the ultimate tribe member. It can really get hypocritical, as they are eager to put down those who judge them but are just as eager to judge themselves.

There is alot more to life than that. Like I said, I just love the music now and when it's right it really opens up something in my (drug-free) being, but that's just me and it really doesn't matter if others react in the same way or not.

So it was fun to go to one Phish show and I'll certainly download a few of the better ones after the tour is over!
