Hi Gain re-wind.

Post by fireglo67 »

Following on from an earlier thread a few weeks back, apart from some cosmetic work, according to the very trusted luthier, my friends 360/6 that fell off the guitar stand may also require the bridge pick up to be re-wound.
Is this a big and difficult job?
Would it make more sense practically and economically just to buy a new Hi Gain pick up as replacement?

Cheers.

Sergio can rewind it..........it's not that expensive but...........if you can afford a new one then that may be a good option as well. Sergio has done some work for me in the past and I received very good results.

Rob: If you do choose to buy a new one, I would encourage you to donate the one that does not work to Sergio. I am confident, however, that he will be able to repair your broken pickup.

The overwound 14K/15K bridge toasters by Sergio in my "Big Red" and AZ blue WBs are fantastic! IMO they actually have a juicier sound than the Dynasonics on my Gretsch Silver Jet.

When the negative terminal wire breaks on a Rick p/up, it usually needs to be rewound. If I remember correctly, the reason is that attempts to resolder the wire back onto the negative terminal usually cause the terminal to heat up to the extent that the end of the winding off the coil detaches from the terminal on the inside of the pickup, resulting in intermittent or complete loss of contact.

Thanks for all the kind advice.

On further investigation of the pick-up, the luthier has said that the fault is not due to the fall but a manufacturing fault, so as the guitar is only a few months old it will be going back to the shop for a warranty repair/replacement.

Just for reference though, who is Sergio? Is he on the forum and where is he based?

Cheers.
