Your FIRST Album???

Post by Bighouse »

My first album...I remember it well...listened to it on my parents' console stereo system (more furniture than hi-fi) that could also, oddly, cut wax 78 rpm disks...I can remember unwrapping the shrinkwrap and pulling out the vinyl and from the paper sleeve...and listening with my head next to the speakers...bought it with my own hard-earned cash from mowing lawns...

The brand new"The Beatles' Second Album" was my first vinyl purchase. 8) Followed by "Meet The Beatles", "Something New", "Help!", "Beatles VI", "Rubber Soul", etc.

We never had anything to play records until I repaired an old Webcor I found in a friend's basement. Shortly thereinafter (as Lou Reed would have said...) my aunt gave me a new copy of "Shut Down Volume II" for my 16th birthday.

I learned a number of the songs in weird keys, playing along with the record. A few months later, I found out that my repaired Webcor had a slipping drive wheel on the turntable, and was running a semitone flat. But that's OK--it's how I learned the usefulness of barre chords. :D

Paul,
You just sent me back to cruising on the Redondo Beach portion of PCH1 with a buddy in his 1967 Chevelle with the airbrush trick'd out paintjob...listening to the Beach Boys on his 8 track in-dash...my car was a 1966 SuperSport Chevy II...sweet ride.

In my early teens I was mainly listening to the few Beatles & Beach Boys albums I had. One day after school, a friend turned me on to Rush, The Sex Pistols and Led Zeppelin on the same day, and my musical life was never the same. The Rush album 2112 is what inspired me to start playing bass, and almost 30 years later, I still love Rush and I still play Ric basses (and a few "others" as well).

It would have been a Beatles' album, but I couldn't tell you which one.

I still remember my first album: The Rolling Stone's first one, "The Rolling Stones" ... IIRC my sister already had the Beatles' first album, and she wasn't that much of a Stones fan, so that's why I bought it. BTW I still have it.

whew,so many years, moves, and formats,ago.....i'm pretty sure the first full size lp i owned was the ventures lp featuring their version of "telstar". my one-year-younger sister bought a lot of the early beatles singles,so we both listened to them.

I adore the 66/67 Novas. my first car was a '66 4dr! one of these days i will have the station wagon version, they were sweet!

as for my first album, i believe it was the Police Regatta de Blanc, Christmas gift in 79(?). My parents were trying to keep me away from the heavier stuff that i was already listening to from my brother such as Sabbath, Jehtro Tull, uriah Heep and Alice Cooper.

Don't tell anyone, but "Killer" is still one of my favorite listens.
