I always find it hard to tell if it falls into the catagory of 'good' from the snippets... but as you say 'looks interesting'....

Should be interesting. I can't tell if the humans are actors or CGI...looks very heavy in the CGI arena though- and to me that doesn't usually keep me entertained for long- I need real people in movies for some reason to make me feel sympathetic to the (at least human) characters.
Because I told you before- oh, you can't do that.

Quote from Wikipedia
In December 2006, Cameron explained that the delay in producing the film since the 1990s had been to wait until the technology necessary to create his project was advanced enough. The director planned to create photo-realistic computer-generated characters by using motion capture animation technology, on which he had been doing work for the past 14 months. Unlike previous performance capture systems, where the digital environment is added after the actors' motions have been captured, Cameron's new virtual camera allows him to observe directly on a monitor how the actors' virtual counterparts interact with the movie's digital world in real time and adjust and direct the scenes just as if shooting live action

Speaking of Avatar- what's going on with your Star Trek avatar? I see you're making a toast, but given what's in the background I'm confused about what you're toasting with?!?!?!

The stereoscoping 3D technique might be as good as Cameron claims. What I hate to see is the overt 'humanity is bad' theme, at least as it comes through in the trailer.

Yea... "looks interesting" is the best description so far. I think it will either be amazing or very disappointing.

Having said that, it could be that in 10-20 years we'll look back at that movie as a groundbreaking start to a whole new genre of films.

Or a very expensive career-destroying flop....

That's from the "Trouble With Tribbles" episode; Scotty, Chekov, and another crewman are in Space Station K7's lounge. Scotty has just opined on the superiority of Scotch over vodka to Chekov, teasing Pavel by asking him "when are you going to get off that milk diet". Klingons are also visiting the station, and the individual standing behind Scotty is a Klingon, who is about to insult Kirk twice, and follow it up with an insult to Scotty's beloved Enterprise by calling it a garbage scow. Scotty cautions Chekov to ignore the insults by the Klingons, who rises to the bait of a brawl at each insult, and is talked back down into his seat by Scotty, until the insulting Klingon corrects one of his own previous insults, specifically in saying that the Enterprise should be towed away as garbage, not that it was a garbage scow. At this point, Scotty can take no more and starts a brawl with the Klingons, with little help from Chekov, who gets tossed about like a rag doll each time he tries to throw a punch. :D

Watch the classic episode here, in a format cleaned up from the original print, before the exterior shots were upgraded and digitzed: http://www.cbs.com/classics/star_trek/v ... cmTKhWFF_T

...that's probably more detail than you wanted to know, eh?

Will see it next Monday - going with some colleagues to the 3D one after work. Although I'm more into Fantasy with trolls and stuff this one seems interesting enough to go and see! I'll share my opinion next week!
