Rick acoustics?

I'm pretty new to the forum, but you guys have me interested. I know Rick made great lap steels (those go in the "coolest sounds in the world" category), electric guitars and basses. How about acoustics? I don't know that I've ever seen a Rick acoustic.

Rickenbacker made precious few acoustics during the 50's and 60's, mostly one-offs for people like Jim Reeves and Ricky Nelson and for trade shows.

Nope! I went looking for it and only found it in CD form. I'm not sure it was ever released on vinyl. it is very cool.

It seems to me that Paul has built a number of them over the last few years and that they are some gorgeous specimens. I believe that two of them have traded hands here on the forum recently. No need to buy used, though - last I heard he's building new ones all the time.

Love the suits. Do they come with the guitar? I know this is going to be very subjective, but how do they sound? More like a Martin, a Gibson, a Taylor? Like something else?

Very bright but with plenty of bottom. Not being well-versed in acoustic guitar brands, not sure what I could compare them to, if anything.

As most of the old-timers on the RRF are aware, I acquired the license to build Rickenbacker acoustics back in late '06, so production never "ceased in circa 2005". To be accurate, factory production ceased in Fall 2005, and by May 2006 I was building them here in San Francisco in very limited numbers. I continue to build them to original Rick specs.

Not a week goes by that I don't get an inquiry about them, many referred by the Rickenbacker factory.

The very acoustic played by Marty Willson-Piper and Paul Kantner in the 75th Anniversary celebrations, left my shop the week before the big shindig (August 2006) and was the second one built by me. I've been producing them in limited numbers by hand ever since.

The tops are ..105 in thickness when they leave the thickness sander, and once sanded and finished, remain at about that thickness.

I recently completed the first-ever Rickenbacker acoustic bass, for Forumite Andy O'Connor, which was featured in the UK's Bass Player magazine in August on page 12.
