New bass today. (non rick content)

Post by cheyenne »

The wife and I were doing a little early Christmas shopping today, and strolled through the local guitar center. Nothing unusual hanging around, so we were about to leave and I notice this sitting on a stand in the corner:

I normally wouldnt have been interested, but when I looked at the price tag,,,,"USED $99.00"

I picked it up, plugged it in to make sure it worked, and bought it on the spot. Its a great bass! Sets up well, pots are nice and smooth, and sounds great. It came with a mirror pickguard, but I had the pearloid one lying around and thought it looked a little better.

I guess you never know......... :D

For $99 I would have grabbed it too!! Cool that it also has the J pickup. To me, that makes it better than a J-bass since I hate the J-bass neck.
Congrats and enjoy it, Scott! :)
Should I say Merry Christmas to you now?

No shame in that bass. Looks sweet

In fact, I was just setting up one of my son's basses. A Squier Musicmaster Vista. Awesome bass. I'm pretty sure I picked it up for just under $100 on Ebay.

You took the mirrored p/g off? (I think Phil Lynott just rolled over in his grave!)

A hundred bucks? Nice score man...

The bass is perfect, but the mirror guard had a nasty scratch across it. I kind of like the pearloid. If I get bored with it, I'll call Tony at Pickguardian for a replacement mirror.

Did I mention that I talked them out of a gig bag and a set of D'Adarrio's as well?...........................

Tortoise shell pickguards also look cool on black P and J basses. I did notice that there was a set of D'Addario strings installed, I wondered if you had out them on.

I have about every kind of pickguard you could want, black, white, mint white, tort, even a gold anodized aluminum one. The only problem is they all have an "ear" notched out of them for a traditional Fendery truss rod. The Squier adjusts at the headpiece.

I think that pearloid PG looks great, but if you do want to replace it, don't go for the mirror unless you are really wed to it. They just get so smudged and dirty. Check out this PG Tony made for my Jazz FL (black pearloid):

Oh, and I paid only about $150 for this axe about 10 years ago. It's amongst my favorites, and the fingerboard laughs at roundwounds. It also growls like a cornered wildebeast.

And by the way, Tony will also shield the pot area to resemble a P-bass PG as in this, another friend of mine:

Can we have everything louder than everything else?
