OH NO.

ANOTHER childhood memory dies. :(

"Sales is survived by his wife, Trudy, and two sons, Hunt and Tony, a pair of musicians who backed David Bowie in the band Tin Machine."

I once saw Soupy live as a VERY YOUNG child. All I really can remember was he was that he appeared at a shopping mall, Roosevelt Field out on LI WAAaaaaaaaaay back when.

RIP Soupy, thanks for the memories. :(

You used to not be able to turn on your TV without seeing him. We'll miss ya, Soupy.

Wow, really odd. My son and I were talking about Hunt and Tony Sales last night, and the discussion led to Soupy. Didn't know he had passed.

His infamous "stunt" on TV was when he asked all the children watching to take "green paper with pictures of dead presidents on it" from their parents wallets and purses and send it into the station. The harmless prank caused his suspension for two weeks, but supposedly made his show even more popular(I edited this portion with facts from Wiki, as I didn't remember it exactly like that).

Despite that, he was a funny dude, and obviously made a couple of fairly talented kids. Didn't they also play for T Rex?

When I was a kid, I loved his TV show with Sweet Tooth, White Fang, Pookie and others.
My quickest recollection of a scene that I have to his show, was when he told his neighbor to be careful about how loud he said something because the walls might have ears. Then the camera showed the wall to the right, which had several ears on it. That's kind of funny when you're just a few years old. I even had a Soupy Sales album with him and his TV show characters.

I also remember him DJ'ing in NYC for a few years on WNBC-AM.

RIP Soupy. :(

Got lucky and met Soupy when I was a page in LA at CBS Television City in the mid-70s. He was rehearsing for a variety show, I think it was Tony Orlando & Dawn Show in studio 43. I went out of my way to shake his hand and to say "hi." He said to me "It's nice to see you again" which I thought was weird since I never met him, but that's Hollywood, folks!

Had dinner with Tony Sales and his beautiful wife at the Whiskey and saw a great bill: The Specials, Madness and The Go-Go's. We talked about his bass parts for Todd Rundgren, which he was stunned that I knew.
