A question for you experts. I traded away an 09 Ric and regretting it. I'm now in the process of replacing it. Was offered one from 97 and waned to know if there are any significant differences between 97 and 09. Pickups, neck width? Any tail lift problems back in 97? It looks like there is a little tail lift in the pics. I would think they would be almost the same minus the push pull cap thing. Thanks for any info/advise.

They are basically the same with these few differences.
The 1997 doesn't have full width neck inlays, adjustable pole pieces on pickups, walnut ends on headstock, push pull treble tone knob. The neck is probably thicker on the 97, depending on when in 09 yours was from. The 09s, beginning in April, have gotten thinner and use a 2 piece construction.

My 09 neck actually felt chunky. Espesially compared to my 89 which is perfect!

Why not just get another 09? Just asking.

I'm doing a trade. I'd go get a new one but they give much less for a trade. Although I may anyway. I'd actually prefer that.

Good point. There are 2 brand new Fireglo's in my area! That's what I want.

The '97 neck won't be bigger fretboard to back of neck than the '09 you had, and might be a tad smaller.

+1 from me too. It's been my experience that it's cheaper in the long run too.

Of course the alternative is to be poorer but to have had lots more Rics...so maybe there's something to be said for that approach too
