1972 Rickenbacker 4001 Original Bass Guitar
I was given an Original 1972 Rickenbacker Original Bass Guitar from my father Pete Traynor (formly of Traynor Amps). I am thinking about selling this guitar, it is in great shape with a few nicks and scratches but nothing serious. It sounds great. I am a guitar player just not a bass guitar...anyway trying to find out what this may be worth, it does come in the original case!! any ideas?

Wow, your dad made some great amps. Some of the best in the world. I had a 68 Yba1 Bassmaster. Played them for years. Is he around? Bass is Likely worth a few grand depending on shape and if it is original.

Welcome, Devan.
Your father's contributions to the history of guitar amplification are increasingly appreciated, more than you might think!

Hi,
Really nice bass (I saw the pics on the other thread), if I wouldn't be saving up for a 4005 I might be tempted...
I have a Nov 1972 4001 in Mapleglo that I bought 3 year ago, it is in pristine condition and I paid around 4000 euros (about $5K at that time) for it from a seller in Munich. This was when the market was still alive and I vividly remember a good condition Fireglo 4001 from 1971 selling for $8655 2 days before mine (I had bids on both).
I saw 3 1972 basses trying to sell on the bay in the past half a year, both didn't sell for $3.5K - $4K.
The market really went down and is only starting to go back up, however for most instruments - the price came back to their "realistic" price, sort of...
So, having said that, in the current market it is my opinion that your bass is worth between $3,000 to $3,500 (perhaps even $4,000 if it is in a REALLY mint condition).
If you are willing to wait for the market to go back up you could easily get another grand on it.
Good luck!

So long and thanks for all the fish!
