Bassic Colors No. 17 – Bursting with blue

Post by bassduke49 »

"Blueburst" (BBR) was the official Color of the Year for 2005, and by some accounts, a popular color. No telling how many were made, but with the recent backlog at RIC, some orders for Blueburst basses were not fulfilled until late 2008, and maybe some later than that. By the mid "oughts," there were only five bass models being produced: 4003, 4004L Laredo, 4004Cii Cheyenne II, 4001C64, and 4001C64S. The latter two were not eligible to receive the COY (as far as I know). It seems that most initial Blueburst basses were 4003, and most of the Laredos and Cheyennes in this color were finished in 2008.

Blueburst is a vibrant translucent blue that is sprayed on similarly to Fireglo; light in the middle, and rich and dark on the edges. It appears to be lighter and brighter than the Transparent Blue available on the Cheyenne II. The shot of a 4003 and 4004Cii was taken at the 2008 RIO. The closeup is my 4004Cii for which I waited three years.

So don't feel blue, just burst with discussion and photos of Blueburst basses!

You should see it in person, Brian!!

Oh.... maybe you will.....

I recall seeing Lindsay Hahn's BBR 4004 in '06. The ones I'd seen until then (guitars mostly) were to me 'wishy washy' and too pale in the middle - almost like a slightly dyed whitweash. Lindsay's absolutely blew me out of the water!! Since then I've had a much greater appreciation of a well done BBR.......... :)

I had the one that was at the NAMM show that year.

Here it is at NAMM. It seems the early ones were more of a transparent blue with less "burst".

Me too! In the three pics I had posted, my 4004Cii looks most like the bottom one in person. The blue gets washed out of the top two with the flash because of my lousy photography skills.
