Jet

Post by fireglo »

Does anybody know how to play the guitar part in the middle of Paul's song Jet? It's the only part that could be considered a guitar break in the song.

About 1:59 into the song. I think Denny Laine is playing the part.

Denny and Jimmy are playing different parts (watch Jimmy's fret position the odd time you can see it).

Denny is playing something like:

Play these frets on the d, g and b strings, in this order (although he might be muting the g string...):

D - 7,7,7
A - 7,6,5

C - 5,5,5
G - 5,4,3

G - 12,12,12
D - 12,11,10
A - 7,6,5

I'm still trying to pick out what Jimmy is doing, generally lower on the neck (at least for the G D A part at the end of each phrase).

Cool! Thanks for the help.

I don't even know the lyrics to that song, let alone how to play it.

Jet was one of Wings biggest songs, from the Band on the Run album. If you're not familiar with that album, you really should acquaint yourself with it.

Ummm...yeah...heard of it. Have you? The lyrics are just a tad screwy.

Never made any sense to me, though I'm sure Sir Paul would have preferred something a bit tidier.

Now, John could really write nonsense in the best Lewis Carroll tradition. Untidy and fun. I think his facility with words made Paul envious and defensive, but Paul was better with music.

Once you realize that Jet is a silly little song that McCartney wrote about a "jet" black pet dog... doesn't a little lyrical nonsense just "make sense"?

(also... keep in mind that there's a lot of very British terms, words and pronunciations strewn about the song for good measure)

Jet was never one of my more favorite Wings songs, yet the album it comes from is top notch.

... and for no reason other than it fits "suffragette" was dropped in. I always thought it was a bit trite to drop in a word with such a heavy meaning just because it fit.

i see denny is playing the john mclaughlin (mahavishnu orchestra) style ibanez double neck that rex bogue had custom made for john back in the mid '70's.

At a certain point, I think PMC just gave up writing lyrics that made any kind of sense whatsoever.
