Test of intonation by octave harmonics / guitar

Post by rubendiaz »

Test of intonation by octave harmonics / on an expensive flamenco guitar…

To conclude the documentary about how to choose a proper flamenco guitar, beyond any subjective preferences, the universally valid qualities, or the virtues of:

a)Intonation.(flawless fret board)

b)Quality of sound.(specifically trebles)

c)Playability (exactness on measurements)

have been examined appropriately for the sake of understanding, what’s objectively desiderable in a guitar and, what’s is not.

Therefore:

a) Intonation.(flawless fret board)

In the video,on minute 2:51 any musician with a trained ear can appreciate that its clearly noticeable the
utter lack of intonation by harmonics on octave, having the 6th E, and 4th D strings the worst intonation, and following the rest of the strings with the same intonation problem.

b) Quality of sound.(specifically trebles)

on minute 0:40 you can hear the poor quality of trebles (plastic sound, no comments…as opposed to the ideal trebles sound for a flamenco guitar on minute 1:24 )

c) Playability (exactness on measurements)

Finally on minute 3:34 the evidence of different distance between the strings on the bridge, speaks for itself.

So it concludes the workshop at the Royal Conservatory of Toronto, in which the subject of the
characteristics & qualities that a good flamenco guitar
should have were explained.

Thanks
For the privilege given by the Royal Conservatory of Toronto of being the first guitar teacher in the world that explained academically this topic -in video format- according to the tenets of the Paco De Lucia’s technique & style.
