Suitable compression for my Ricks?
MXR Dyna Comp is often mentioned, so i bought one. But i am not fully pleased with the "seasick" feeling it leaves behind, and it also cuts a lot of the high frequencies. Any suggestions?
Re: Suitable compression for my Ricks?
Might look into the Janglebox. Very pleased with the one I've had for three of four years now.

Re: Suitable compression for my Ricks?
Janglebox seems nice, a bit pricey though... Maybe a treble-booster would solve the case?
Re: Suitable compression for my Ricks?
By all means, invest in an original Janglebox or the new JB2. My JB2 just arrived and it blows away all the other compressors I've tried. The MXR Dynacomp was just too dirty for me, the Boss CS-3 was unremarkable (and very noisy) and the Keeley (which costs the same as the original Janglebox) did nothing for me. The JB2 is totally quiet (not a hint of hum or hiss) and when you turn it on, it literally transforms the guitar sound. Unlike the original Janglebox, it takes a standard adapter, like a One Spot. If you're looking for the ultimate Rickenbacker 12-string tone, you simply can't do better. I guess you get what you pay for!

Re: Suitable compression for my Ricks?
Faustus,
It's very difficult to find stores here that carry the Janglebox pedals, and I imagine it's even harder in your part of the world. I ordered mine directly from Steve Lasko, who runs the company. You can check out their website, including sound clips, at www.janglebox.com. The best way to reach Steve by e-mail is at: [email protected].
The original model goes for $225 plus shipping, and there is a six week wait. But the more versatile JB2's (which cost only $50 more) are in stock and ready for shipping. When you figure in the cost of a pin-positive adapter to go with the original (the JB2 takes a standard adapter) you're only looking at a $25 difference between the two models.
You should be aware that either pedal has a 48 hour return policy. Steve explained to me that this is intended to discourage recording studios from using a Janglebox for a single project and then returning it. I sent Steve an e-mail explaining that I would need longer to try out the pedal with my gear and he agreed to give me a ten day grace period. Within an hour of use, I knew the pedal was a keeper.
I really think the JB2 really runs circles around the other compressors I've tried. Please let me know if you have any other questions, and good luck in your search for the right compressor!
Robert

Re: Suitable compression for my Ricks?
Also, check the RRF Marketplace "For Sale" section here or the "Second Strum" thread for Jangleboxes or other Compressors that might be available.
There are several Threads here, spread out amongst several sections of the RRF where folks have evaluated and compared Compressors.... the Quest for Tone thread, this Guitars thread you are on, etc. You can run a Search....

"The Quest for Tone" that is a good headline, or "The Quest of a Lifetime". Next mission: to nail a sweet compression.
Re: Suitable compression for my Ricks?
Jimmy: You should have access to the Rickenbacker Marketplace. I will let Gil know of this difficulty.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Contact the admin, the access to the marketplace should be possible with 30 posts. Access rules have been changed just recently, maybe your account hasn't been updated yet.faustus wrote: Seems i have no access to the sell section yet...
Edit : uups, noticed already !
Re: Suitable compression for my Ricks?
Jimmy, what do you see when you access the marketplace section?
Please go to viewforum.php?f=67 and tell me which forums do you see.
