What's the story with: Burgundy RICs ?

Post by Ric_MEL »

I have gathered that RIC makes a Color of the Year from time to time.. and think I read on some post where they haven't done that for awhile.. ( 2006 ? )

anyway.. when going through the " show us your 660/620 " thread..

I came across an insanely gorgeous BURGUNDY.!!!

Wow.. that's pretty!

What's the story with the Burgundy color ? was that a COY from <the past> ?

Was there ever a time RIC did custom shop painting ? ( doesn't sound like something RIC could/would do..given their back order situation... )

Are they rare as all get out? .. ? as I've only seen the ONE instance of pictures/reference to BUR

Tnx!

Hey Mark......Burgundyglo was a standard color many years ago......from the 60s to the 80s.
Burgundy was a color of the year for 2002......it was a bit lighter and more transparent than the
burgundyglo from years past. They're all beautiful guitars!!!

Burgundy was first found on Rick's in the '60's and continued into the '80's and was re-introduced in 2002 as a COY. Also the finish was used in '99 and into 2000, but only on 425v '63's and 450v '63's.

Agreed.
The way Mark transformed that guitar into the way it looks now is amazing.
He should start a business of Ric restoration here in the UK! :)

Mike Parks' website has a nice Finish Time Line chart:

http://www.the-music-connection.com/ricinfo.htm#fin

This shows the finishes available over time, including the Color Of The Year finishes.

Yep!!!!!

Ooh, there's an idea; maybe I'll have my 381s refinished in BG from MG, and have the headstocks CB bound. :)

Will the birdseye still stand out if I do?

Mark, you have a powerful imagination!

You were able to make a 360V64 in BG appear!

Perhaps you could enter it on the Register?! :D
