The Talkbox enigma - any Vocoder experience out there?

My band is performing "Tell Me Something Good" and there is talkbox a'plenty in that song! I want to buy one and have been looking at lots of stuff on line - but having never used one before I don't know what the best direction is for me.

I want to spend the least amount of money for the easiest to use piece of equipment that will accomplish the job. I prefer not to use the medical tube if possible but cheap rules the roost in this case since it will be a one trick pony for me.

Used or new, I don't care. Just functional with a big FAT wah and minimal added distortion.

Any advice out there?
