340 Buzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Post by targ »

Hi,

I have a 340 Ric with a trem, It (me) has been haunted by a buzz that up until now has been very elusive to find.

What I have found is that it is from the G string right at the bridge. If I take a pick and place it in the G string slot on top of the string with slight pressure and strum, the buzz is gone.
how in the world does one go about fixing this?

Thanks

You need to make a clean edge for the string to stretch over. The saddle notch is probably slightly beveled front to back, leading to the string buzzing against the saddle when it vibrates.

File the saddle notch just a tiny bit with a small triangular file until you can see the edge that faces toward the pickups is a nice crisp one. Should only take a few strokes. Keep resetting the string and retrying it until the buzz is gone.
