IIRC, we've discussed the pros and cons of the Plek system earlier.
I watched a little bit of the video ...it seemed like they were trying to emphasize the travel in the z axis (perpendicular to the fretboard surface, which would be the x-y plane). I usually strike the strings in the x-y plane only.
