Finish question

I suppose this would be best answered by Paul, but if anyone else has any input, please feel free to answer.

I have a cheap electric no-name guitar which I know the previous owner re-finished with an acrylic lacquer. There are a couple of areas that I'd like to overspray with clear and I'm planning to use nitrocellulose rather than clear acrylic lacquer. The solvents in that stuff are so much more evil smelling to me than nitro that I won't use it. Anyone ever shot nitro over acrylic lacquer?
