vintage tone switch...

received a vintage tone switch and a bass toaster from RIC for my friend's jetglo '74 (with short pole toaster). noticed the threaded portion of the pot for the nut much smaller than the original diameter it needs to fill in the pickguard. are the new basses pickguards drilled with a smaller hole in the treble tone area to accomodate the smaller pot ? i guess a spacer grommet and larger washers are in order to install this, if i go ahead to replace the rotary switch i already have in this bass. nothing wrong with the rotary, i just offered him the option of trying the new style switch for the halibut. the new toaster is replacing the short pole as the volume difference is so drastic between the neck and rear higain.

Use a short piece of rubber or vinyl tubing to take up the space for the smaller diameter.

do they drill a smaller hole in the new 4003 basses for that switch pot ?

It looks like they do, Ron. I just looked at my 4003 with the VTP and the shaft is smaller in diameter.
