Strings issue.

Post by Casiraghi22 »

As everyone knows, I got a 4001c64s. I don't know what strings to use. I mean what is the proper gauge for the bass? any Rick expert that could help?

To a certain extant, string gauge is a personal choice; With that out of the way, I use D'Addario Chromes on my 4001V63 in their Super Soft gauge (40-60-75-95) but I replace the .060 D string with a .055, which evens out the feel more to my liking.

I'm using Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats (043, 056, 070, 100) on my 4001v63. I'd like to try some Pyramids though.

I suppose one of the first things to decide is whether you want flat wound strings or round wound. Rounds tend to be brighter, flats thumpier, though some flats are quite bright too.

As for your 4001c64s, it can handle just about anything so there's really no proper gauge. It really does come down to what you like both in feel and sound, and that can vary from bass to bass and most certainly from person to person...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
