I put together a sample fingerboard stuffed with three different shells.

Curt--

The sample at bottom left/ top right looks super!

Some might prefer the purer white sample; IMO the grayish one is a bit dark.

Thanks Paul, the picture make the white one look weird. The gold would look perfect for the vintage feel. I've found that I have to strain the white before I mix it with the resin or it gets cloudy.

I did a couple samples a while back with turquoise (solid and crushed) to see how they would look. I've been thinking about having my 330/12 bound and inlayed for that elusive "Western, But Not Horribly Tasteless" look, but haven't decided yet whether I like it or hate it.

I kinda like the middle bottom one. I've always thought some mostly black pearl inlay would look fantastic.
If only that one was just a bit blacker, but with the sparkle...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

The gold wins it for me! Looks like the CV has ambered over a 40-year period.....

And Todd - is there such a thing as "Western, But Not Horribly Tasteless"?

I didn't see Gram Parsons' Nudie suit, or Chris Hillman's either for that matter. They must not qualify as tasteless.

I'm afraid that this is about as close as I can come to that look.....but it's great if you have to play a gig at the Little Big Horn. The "problem" with Rickenbacker re-fins is that it's damned near impossible to come up with anything that rivals a nice burst, crushed pearl and CB.

I love the solid turquoise inlays, Todd.

And Curt, I agree with Paul about your samples

I wonder how Tiger Eye inlays would look. Or Hematite?

Is Hematite what's wrong with Krause's toes?

I've always wanted OPAL inlays. :)

Curt, the gold-ish shell inlay looks ace!

I have mixed emotions about the turquoise, Todd (and I own a few vintage H-Bar C shirts).

Now that's an idea I could get behind... :D

Imagine inlays that look like this:
