New Rickenbacker Specs?

Post by jack1953 »

Being a thin neck junkie, does anyone know if the new Ric 4003 has a thin neck?

I've heard that since April 2009 they have been made with the 2 piece construction and are nice and thin. My Feb 2010 has a nice thin neck, but it's a 3 piece so might be a bit different...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

What do you mean by 3 piece? The used one in this link is a midnight blue, which is the one I would want if I had a choice. Is there a way to tell what year it is?

The used one is priced for 1715. Do the normally come with cases?
Is your Feb 2010 a 4003?

By 3 piece neck I mean it looks like this:

And yes, it's a 4003, but not your ordinary 4003.

Rickenbacker sells them with the case included, but for used, well, it's up to whoever is selling it. As for year, it's pretty hard to tell without the serial number or even pictures. I'd just call Music123 and ask them about it...

I just tried out a couple brand (just out of the box) new 4003's a couple days back and they were thin necked. Not sure what the manufacturing date really was on them though but one would assume they were new due to the backlog.

Your logic is great but this does not always hold true! Kind of shocking and among other things it suggests that some people just aren't willing to look hard enough for new Rics, even with the "Recently shipped" feature on Ric.com.
