Progress of MID Blue colors

Post by scoobster28 »

I thought I saw a thread once that explained the history and change of the MID blue coloring scheme. If someone could point it out to me that would be great. If not, could someone explain it again. If I recall correctly, it is blue sprayed over silver. But, I thought I remembered that sometimes the silver had sparkle and sometimes not, and there were different amounts of blue used.

I know I have seen some MID guitars with really "sparkly" blue colors (which I like) and others which almost look like Navy blue, and which can be mistaken for black in less then perfect light.

Adding photographs of your guitars/basses won't hurt either!

Thanks.

IIRC there have been three major distinct variations of MID. The current one's the best, of course. :)

My fave was the Vicks Vapo-rub jar color (circa 1996). What a gorgeous shade of cobalt blue. It looked good enough to lick!

There is a bit of a discussion of MID blues on the first page of this thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=392114&p=584715&hil ... go#p584715

I believe there is another thread that goes into MID blues in more detail. Just don't have the time to search for it right now.

Love MID in 620s also. Infact one of my favorite Rics is a 620 in MID.Its quite difficult to capture the sparkle but its got it.
My 08 model 360 this guitar hasn't been out on a gig yet still breaking it in. :P

That is one nice guitar. In the middle picture though it almost reminds me of turquoise. I really like the last picture where the silver sparkle comes through. For the two difference in blue in the linked to thread, I wish I could see them both close up. That is quite the difference!

I always perfered the original MID. It lived up to its name in dark lighting but was fairly bright in sunlight.

On the 4003, I think the new MID matches nicely with the new full-width inlays. Something about it...

The two MID 381s at NAMM `09 and `10 were both gorgeous!

No pictures of them? I never was interested in anything except JG, until I saw the current version of MID... gorgeous on a 360!

I don't know if this was at NAMM, but I saved photos of a 381V69 in the new MID finish from about 6 months ago. I believe Craig Witty may have ended up with it. This is the best of the pics that I have:

MID is one of these colours that looks so different from what angle you are looking from Love this guitar.
