Byrds on Johnny Carson!!

Post by mcd220 »

Hi Guys-

From 7/13/67, here is the audio for the three songs:

"Ladyfriend" (w/Crosby's "We tune because we care" spiel)
http://www.sendspace.com/file/z22dck

"Rennaisance Fair"
http://www.sendspace.com/file/wuxqjj

"Have you seen her face"
http://www.sendspace.com/file/4wc0wq

Bob Newhart was the host that night, and would love to hear the catcalls that he reportedly hurled at the band, but unfortunately, that's not here.

Now, from what I understand, there is a chunck of years (1965-70?) from "The Tonight Show" where all the videos were thrown out. Many exist before & after this period, however. I'd like to hear more detail about this, if anyone has the info.

So, in short, this is the closest we'll get. We're lucky that some Byrd freak was sitting in front of his TV with a tape recorder that night...

Obviously, quality is terrible, and for the fan only.

Enjoy,

Christian

Thanks Christian! They sounded good. Would love to see the footage. Hopefully, one of these day's someone will find it.

How was your birthday?

Yes, thanks Christian. Much appreciated. And wouldn't it be great indeed if the video portion were found. I've always wondered what guitar was being played by Roger (?) for the leads on "Have You Seen Her Face." Was it a Gretsch, perhaps?

Roger was likely playing his Country Gentleman. There is plenty of photos from 1967 showing McGuinn was using his Grestch.

Hey Christian, I have to ask; how and where did you find these audio clips? Did you just google them? Thanks again.

Hi Jim-

A friend of mine in The Netherlands sent them to me for my birthday...I'm always involved in some kind of Byrds trading at any given time to gather up and complete as much as I can on the original band.

The 3 tracks from Carson are from the bootleg, "Screenshots-1965-71"

If anyone can help, here are a few of my holy grail wants:

Lloyd Thaxton Show-1965 (The band was on 4 times total, and made their debut on TV here as well)

Where the action is-1965 (I need the 1st out of 4 appearances only)

Mike Douglas Show-1965 (I'm chomping at the bit for this one, because you know Mike interviews his guests, and there is no film footage of "Original 5" members "Talking" ANYWHERE in 1965)

American Bandstand-"Ladyfriend"-1967 (I'll be uploading 8MH from said show for you guys shortly...Crosby's VERY LAST TV Byrd appearance!)

And basically, ANYTHING from the 1965-67 period, especially '65...I have most all of it, and you guys can see it at the YT channel of course.

Best, Chris

Oh yeah! That one would top any Byrdmaniac's list. I hope you find it.
