+1 on Jim's comments. "King of the Hill" is by far (IMO) the best of the 4 songs (including the TP cover). The main reason is that the mix on KOTH is head and shoulders above the other three. The Rick sounds great and has very good presence. The bass is also more present and, in fact, all of the parts 'sit better' together. Your talent and ability are obvious, but it seems that the mixing (and possibly equipment) are preventing them from coming through as clearly as they could. I kept wanting to turn up the slide guitar on the TP cover! Mixing is as much an aquired artistic skill as playing an instrument. It gets better and easier with time and practice. I've been recording cover songs for the past year and a half (43 songs) and I'm still just starting to learn how to do a cohesive mix. Once again, I fully agree with Jim; nicely done on all of them.

I couldn't agree more! I've struggled with the whole mixing thing. I think the hardest part is keeping in mind and sticking with the premise that "less is more" when it comes to recording. I've learned a lot since these recordings. I believe I was blinded by walls of guitar in some cases. But I have since cut back on that idea. Though its cool, the wall of guitars I mean, it takes real skill to make that wall stand up!

Nice work, particularly "King of the Hill." What were your secrets in capturing that beautiful twelve string sound? Were there more than two ovedubs?
