'75 Ric 4001 - Burgundy?

Post by Peer »

New member, first post after long time just reading this forum:

Last sunday I traded my trusty Darkstar-Precision for my first ever Rickenbacker. A '75 Ric 4001 in what I thought was Burgundy. But at home I began to doubt, because it's rather more redish than I expected. I like the color very much though! It has some serious wear-and-tear, but it sounds fantastic 8)

I dated the Ric back to January 1975 and according the available colors around that time it could only be Burgundy. Yesterday I had a short meeting with a fellow bassplayer, and he brought his '73 Ric in Burgundy. Look how different the colors are, although both to be Burgundy:

Strange....... ??? Is my Ric Burgundy or not?

I prefer the colour of yours to the other pictured. A great acquisition. I have a mapleglo 4001 from May 1975 (also well used) and I love the sound of it. 8)

Welcome Peter..
Your bass looks like a burgundy but your friends bass looks more like a burstless walnutglo IMHO

I don't care what it's called -- that's a nice-looking axe. 8)

To clear things up a little.. the '73 Rickenbacker shown in this picture is actually my bass.
I must say that in real life both basses are more red than shown in the pictures.

Here are some more shots:

Yes, that is Burgundy (also called Burgundyglo). The color varied through the years from a deep, dark "eggplantglo" to a bright see-through red, to a pale wine color.

My '75 (August).......

They must have had a guy who laid the red on thickly at the time.

I always noticed my Fireglow had deeper color than every other era.
