Yet another string question

Post by Danhalen »

Hi guys,

Now I know that there are a million threads about strings on here. I wasn't able to find this question after searching though. To get the new nut for my guitar, the tech needs a new set of strings. The only ones I can get in town are D'addarios. I am not a fan of their strings and will be ordering some other strings (most likely Thomastik or Ric strings).

My question is this. Will the D'addarios (regular "10" 12 string set) be too high in tension for my old 12 string neck for a little while?

Thanks!

The neck may bow a little more than before, but it'll handle it. RIC would not ship guitars with strings that were a step away from destroying them!

If you don't want to touch the truss rods, you can always detune the guitar a quarter- or half-step in the meantime...

I guess I was being silly. I just was thinking that D'addarios might be higher tension than Ti's or Ric strings(?). I just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy to go ahead and get the nut cut so I can get my guitar back sooner, while ordering the strings I want in the mean time.
