Please help my band open for BnL!

Post by Freez »

Hello Rickenbrethren, I'm posting this in hopes that you can help us out. My band, The Ilk, is entered into a contest here in Detroit to open for The Barenaked Ladies in early August. We are one of 37 bands that were accepted into the contest, and the winner is chosen by popular vote. We have entered and original tune by our guitarist/vocalist called "Ann Arbor Girl". While most of our stuff tends to lean toward the rock side of pop, we chose this song because it has a bit of a folksy feel, which we figured BnL fans might like, while still being basically a pop tune. So I asked Joey if it would be appropriate to post this and which forum would be best, and he suggested here. The link to the voting page is below, and you can listen to the song there. It will ask you for an e-mail address and password to submit a vote, but I have been assured that they don't retain this info beyond the contest, and it won't be used for solicitation of any kind (the contest is sponsored by our local FOX affiliate, FOX2 Detroit). Please help us out guys, we're all really fired up about this!!! (and if you're feeling REALLY ambitious, you can vote as often as once per hour). Thanks in advance for any support you can give everyone!

Mr. Freez,

Great song and good luck! I tried to go vote for you but it required me to set up an account, password, etc. and I don't like to do that because I end up getting a lot of spam :(

Is there any other way to vote for you and help out?

Best of luck, I hope it works out for you. I've only seen BNL once, and it was early '90s at a big annual festival in Seattle called "Bumbershoot". They opened for Violent Femmes and they stole my heart when they did an acoustic version of KISS "I Was Made For Lovin' You" complete with upright bass!!! I hope age hasn't affected their stage show !!!

Hey thanks for the support guys! Dan, there's no other way to vote, I wish there was. I had the same concern, but the TV station did promise me that the information was discarded after the contest and that no contact of any kind would be made with the voters other than confirming that there account was set up. But I understand your concern.

I married an "Ann Arbor Girl" so I had to register and vote. Fun song! Hope you get the gig.

Thanks Mark, musically speaking I don't think I've ever wanted anything as much as I want to win this!
