Horseshoe pickup slanting problem
Hi to all,
My first visit as a member, but I've drunk from this knowledge pool often. I have not seen this problem here.
I own a 1987 V63 LH and my horseshoe pickup has lopsided itself somehow. I think it may have happened on a recent road trip. The adjusting screw does nothing.
The screw on the other side is fine. Nothing seems loose or rattling inside. I can lift up on the slanting side of the cover and there is tension. I let go and it goes right down again. I tried turning the screw while holding up the cover thinking it may catch but it didn't. Is there a way to fix this while leaving the strings on? They are fairly new. Thanks.

Welcome, Jack!
You will have to take the strings off, or at least slacken them, and take the whole assembly off to check what's going on. My guess is the plastic baseplate is broken right near that adjusting screw's threaded support.

That's what happened to the HS on my first CS; it was damaged in transit from the shop to me and both sides of the baseplate were broken. At the time I was mortified.

It's also possible that the threads on the mounting plate are stripped. Nice bass. Are those magnetic shoes?

The pup may just have come off the end of the adjusting screw. Pull 'er out and take a look at 'er.

That's a good possibility because it would normally have to be a very strong jolt to the horseshoe to break the base.s4001 wrote:The pup may just have come off the end of the adjusting screw. Pull 'er out and take a look at 'er.

Re: Horseshoe pickup slanting problem
Whew! That was it, the nut fell off the adjusting screw. I put it back on, we kissed and made up. Thank you to everyone for your help.

Jack: I'm glad that's all the problem was and that you've easily taken care of it.
Mark: The foot is getting better slowly, way too slowly. It's not too terrible now, but I still have to be careful about putting weight on it. Thanks for asking!
