....isn't this a 4001v63? I've never seen one this color.

It's a great price for Japan!

It's a 4003S/VP in Red.

Looks too dark to be "Red" which is a fire-engine solid red, usually accompanied (but not always) by black trim and hardware. I think this is a 4003S VP in Ruby. Ruby is a metallic red that came standard white/chrome trim, Red standard with BT/BH. When these were made, there was an upcharge to have "reversed" trim, so only a few have turned up.

The V63 would be different in several ways, including the reissue Horseshoe with its characteristic surround, a longer plexi TRC, and the neck pickup in the 1/2" position from the fretboard. On the back, the V63 has a squared-off heel to the neck. Most V63 have no position marker on the 19th fret, but at least one V63 has it (mine); likely a mistake at assembly.

YES, I missed the horshoe pickup and I own a 4001v63! I guess the toaster pickup, dots and no binding distracted me.

I haven't seen a 4003 without the inlay and binding.
