Fuzz for my 365?

Post by octagon »

One of the things that inspired me to buy my '68 360 was the Rickenbacker played by The Mops

You can hear it in the movie below.Check out the banks of Teisco amps! On a side note to Woody Allen fans,if you watch till the end of the clip you may recognize "Phil Moskiwietz" from "What's Up Tiger Lilly.

What kind of Fuzz pedal would give me that sound?

I have a few that sound very similar. The old Dod Flashback Fuzz does it. The Danelectro Grilled Cheese Fuzz will do it. Those might be the easiest to get. I've gotten similar sounds from a RI Vox Tonebender.

Try a Fuzz Face reissue, that's an extremely versatile Fuzz pedal that will nail the tone to just about anything. I have a Face and I haven't thought about anything else.

Here are some demos of some fuzzes that will point you in the right direction:

Tone Bender (similar to Matt B's):

Two Fuzz Faces (red has geranium transistors, blue has silicon)

Big Muff (those who don't really care for Fuzz seem to prefer this):

If you haven't bought a fuzzbox yet, then try the out the Yardbox by Prescription Electronics. It's based on the Colorsound Tonebender that Jeff Beck used in the Yardbirds.

I like that comparison video between the two fuzzface pedals. thanks for posting it again, Jake. :)

Yardbox, eh? Hadn't heard of that one. Might have to check that out as well. Not sure when I'll use a fuzz, since I'm pretty happy with my Dano Daddy-O and Tube Screamer pedals, but if I buy a pedal, I usually manage to integrate it into one song or another for Smiling face down. :)
