World Party

Post by jdogric12 »

I caught a rerun of 120 Minutes this morning on television. World Party's video for Way Down Now played, and the left-handed front man used a right-handed 325. Interesting stuff if you like that late 80's new wavey stuff. I had never heard of them before and just read the wiki. Neat story. Sorry, no youtube here at work, maybe someone can search and post one?

There's two videos for that song, the only one I could find on YouTube showed him with a Gretsch Nashville.

Saw that video when it premiered, and Martha Quinn actually mentioned the flipped-over Rickenbacker.

I like WP a lot. Seen 'em twice.

K. Wallinger left the Waterboys to form (or singlehandedly be) World Party.

On these three albums there are some modern classics which stand on their own to this day:

'Goodbye Jumbo'
'Bang'
'Egyptology - the Enclave'

"Ship of Fools" is one of my all time favorite songs.

It makes many of my iPod playlists!

The Waterboys had some great stuff too.

Saw them years ago, with Jellyfish opening, a great double bill.

Yeah Chris Sharrock was in World Party briefly.
After the heights of the La's and Icicle Works and before the 'dad rock' days of Robbie Williams and Oasis.
A great drummer.

'Love Street' from Goodbye Jumbo is a favourite of mine. Beautiful song.

Talking of the Icicle Works, when I was working with a guy named Nikki Sudden, we backed Ian McNabb on a tribute to Neil Young evening in Birmingham, UK back in the mid-nineties. What a great frontman/guitarist - he had those Crazy Horse licks down to a T!

Don't know who the drummer was when I saw them, but he lost 4 sticks during their set.

I saw the Icicle works at the T&C I think, with the La's supporting (Lee & john were not getting on on stage) and I thought the La's were **** - I didn't know who they were at that point, I wish I paid more attention now!!
