Looks like someone wanted a mod similar to Roger Glover's.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

Q: Why do people do this?
A: Because they can.
The point of modding that Rick was lost on me. What I wonder is, why didn't the dude get the bass he really wanted instead of spending top dollar on a premium bass and then turning it into this?

Some mods are tastefully done.............that one is not one that I would like to perform on my bass.

Looking forward to the 'Ric modding enthusiasts' weighing in on this one.....

These slanted J-PUs on a Ric are an old story, however the first violater of this, as far as I know was Roger Glover from Deep Purple.

knobs don't bother me too much...but the way the pickups sit really **** out the 'lines' of the bass.... looks unconfortable at best to my eyes!

I guess people just wake up one day and think "Hey,, I know,, I'm gonna cut up my Rickenbacker and make it better, therefore killing the resale value".

Mabye its a virus?? I hope I dont catch it.

I can't say why, but when I look at this travesty, I can almost hear Jeff Foxworthy doing a riff on redneck bassists......

Or it could be that it was abused by someone else, then sold and "repaired" to this condition by the subsequent buyer. It's possible it was much worse than this at some time. Not everyone has the $$ for a "proper" restoration.

I don't mind the slanted pickups that much, it might actually be cool, if the scratchplate wouldn't make it that bad looking.
The double bump on the bass side looks really weird.
I wonder why people drop jazzbass pu's in it, then cling onto that scratchplate oultine.

It might not sound awful although the pickups being so close to each other kind of bugs me. Slanted pickups are cool although I've always thought it would sound better if they slanted in the opposite direction than these. In any case it wouldn't be all that hard to restore for someone who desired to.
